Cousin Idol 2007

JUNE 28, 2007 - 2nd Annual Cousin Idol

The 2nd Annual Cousin Idol was quite a success, and unlike Season 1, was a well-planned and well-executed event that brought the family together, laughing their stomachs out and drying their tear buds out with joy. Here's a short recap:

After an entertaining opening act by the energetic and innovative Ramandeep Singh, we carried on with the competition. Round #1 was a colorful Hindi ganay segment, with Manjeet choosing "Bole Churia" and Manjot singing "Dharak Dharak". Though Manjeet's crystal vocals shined as usual, the round went to Manjot for her effortless display of emotion.

Round #2 had both cousins singing (somewhat botched versions of) Home, by Michael Buble. Manjeet really did outperform Manjot in this round, having a stronger hold of the melody than her competitor.

But Round #3 went to Manjot, who was entertaining and lively, though a bit reluctant. Manjeet's version of "If We Were A Movie" was pitch and note-perfect, but sounded like a carbon-copy.

So all-in-all, it was a close call, but judges Ramandeep Singh and Ravleen Kaur gave the title (and 5 song contract) to Manjot. Manjeet Kaur won the radio edition, proving she was just as talented as Manjot.

Next year, it'll be even grander, involving multiple contestants and an extended family. Stay tuned, and watch the HunjanCousins blog for updates about us, our lives, and things we find interesting!

The Purpose of Cousin Idol

The purpose of Cousin Idol is to challenge the artists of tomorrow and basically overcoming the fears of stage fright and developing better social skills. The other purpose is not only to entertain but brings the family together and teaching our contestants the true values of competition and that winning is not important and that participation is important and how the contestants entertained the audience and how the contestants emotionally deal with the fact that they either lost or win and how they "argue" with the judges in a more smoooth and peaceful way rather than arguing badly and basically that is what Cousin Idol is all about.

-This is also celebrity judge Ramandeep Singh's encouragement speech for the Cousin Idol competitions held every summer. Hear the speech at the next competition or check on-line at this website. It is usually delivered before the first round begins and after and before the judges have made their decisi0ns.

-Ramandeep Singh is also the host of the competition as well as being celebrity judge.

2008 Cousin Idol

Since the 2007 Cousin Idol competition was held on June 28, 2007 in San Jose, California, United States of America, I as celebrity Cousin Idol judge hereby nominate and declare Morgan Hill, California as the host for the 2008 Cousin Idol competition. One rule in Cousin Idol is that the winner's hometown gets to host the next Cousin Idol competition and since Manjot was Cousin Idol winner (2007) and her hometown is Morgan Hill, California, the next Cousin Idol competition is proposed to be held there as soon as chief celebrity judge Ravleen Kaur gives the "thumbs-up" and we are all set to go.
